Nokia Nseries has joined hands with Indian Music Industry (IMI) to announce ‘Legends of India’, which is a new music offering to be preloaded into the Nokia Nseries music edition devices (Nokia N91, N73 and N70).
‘Legends of India’ was unveiled in Mumbai by singer Jagjit Singh along with representatives from IMI, Universal Music Group, SaReGaMa India, Venus and Times Music.
For the first time, Nokia Nseries will provide 100 DRM compliant songs of over 10 music luminaries across genres ranging from popular film music, devotional, ghazals to remixes to enhance consumers’ mobile music experience.
Nokia Nseries recently unveiled three mobile multimedia devices as a part of its Nokia Nseries music edition. These include the Nokia N70 Music Edition, Nokia N73 Music Edition and Nokia N91 8GB.
Nokia India multimedia director Vineet Taneja said, “The Legends of India offering will make our newly launched Nokia Nseries music edition proposition even stronger since it will enable us to deliver a premium music experience to our consumers.
Music forms a core part of Nokia Nseries value proposition and consumers can now listen to their favorite artists ‘On-the-Go’ anytime, anywhere at the click of a button.”
“Mobile devices have emerged as one of the most preferred mediums for listening to music as is also evident from the fact that over 280 million MP3 enabled devices are expected to be sold by 2010. Nokia Nseries will drive this trend and continue to introduce initiatives to deliver a superior music experience. We are confident that our new initiative will contribute towards promoting the music ecosystem at large and help the Indian Music Industry to regularize the distribution of legal music content,” he added.
Inaugurating ‘Legends of India’, singer Jagjit Singh, said, “I am glad to be a part of this initiative undertaken by Nokia Nseries and the Indian Music Industry and wish them the very best in their endeavor towards supporting the music industry.”
Some of the tracks that will be available as a part of this offering include songs by artists such as Jagjit Singh, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, AR Rahman, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Ghulam Ali, Mohd Rafi, Geeta Dutt, SD Burman, RD Burman, Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik amongst others.
The songs can be unlocked using a code available on the scratch card that will be pre-bundled with the Nokia Nseries music edition sales boxes.
IMI chairman Subroto Chatopadhyay said, “We are pleased to partner with Nokia Nseries. Music piracy is a growing menace in most markets including India and has grown at an alarming rate of 56 per cent in 2005.
Our partnership with Nokia Nseries will go a long way in creating a new revenue stream for the industry at large as well as help curb illegal distribution of music content.”
SaReGaMa India vice president (A&R), publishing and new media Atul Churamani said, “SaReGaMa India owns the largest catalogue of songs in the country, spanning all genres and languages. This partnership is a great opportunity to offer this music on the mobile platform of Nokia Nseries.”
Universal Music managing director Rajat Kakar added, “We are committed to capitalize on the convergence of mobile phones with the growing demand for music and entertainment. Nokia Nseries and Legends of India is a win-win initiative for everyone as it will bring the popular legendary music audiences at large. This gives the mobile music enthusiast yet another choice to enjoy music from leading artists of our industry.”
Detailing its partnership, Tips managing director Kumar Taurani said, “This is an excellent opportunity to extend out vast repertoire of music to Indian audiences at large.”
