The National Flag Day ‘Tiranga’- is a celebration of our National Flag through Poetry and Music
The 1st flag committee formed the National Flag Day (31st August) in the year 1931. This Committee consisted of Sardar Patel (President), Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Maulana Azad, Master Tara Singh, Kaka Kalelkar, Dr Hardikar and Pattabhi Sitaramayva (Convener).
And this year The National Flag Day ‘Tiranga’ Celebrated 60th year of our Independence at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. ‘Tiranga’ is a sincere effort to generate a true sense of patriotism & to spread the true meaning, essence and energy of our National Flag, for the younger & future generations of our country. Renowned poet Javed Akhtar, poetically explained the Tri-colour and the Ashoka Chakra which, is further depicted through the musical performances of Legendry Indian Classical Maestros Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj (Hindustani Vocal), Pandit Vijay Ghate (Tabla), Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (Flute), Vidhwan U. Shrinivas (Mandolin), Ramani (Ghatam) and Bhawani Shankar (Pakhawaj). ‘Tiranga’ is conceptualized by Durga Jasraj.
The main stage highlighted with transparent drapes, all around, so that colour lights can be used to the maximum, to enhance the complete performance and to create the right ambience, so that every color is depicted through Poem, Music and Lights. Finally this event concluded with National Anthem. At the end of the programe chief guest Priyaranjan Dasmunshi felicitated the maestros with flowers appreciated Durga Jasraj for this concept. Pt. Hariprasad Chuarasia says, India has such a Culture, Tradition, Dance forms, Indian Food, that every country is adapting this in these days.
‘Tiranga’ is first of its kind in the world. It is a celebration of our National Flag through Poetry and Music. This was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Parliament House New Delhi on 31st January 2003 for the first time.Tiranga had an extraordinary reception in London on 26th January 2004 at Royal Festival Hall. Tiranga was recently performed in San Francisco, USA. There is no political message in this event it is just a poetic and musical depiction of our flag. It’s a complete Light and Sound event. “Tiranga” has been performed in New Delhi, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Meerut.
